Aids & appliances worth over Rs.11 lakhs distributed to disabled people in Khliehriat
Up to 200 Aids and Appliances costing about Rs.11,89,407- under the ADIP Scheme were distributed free of cost to assessed Persons with Disabilities(PWDs) in Khliehriat on Saturday.
The programme was organized by the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities (Divyangjan), New Delhi in collaboration with SAKSHAM under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities(Divyangjan), National Institute For Locomotor Disabilities ((Divyangjan), Kolkata, Office of the Deputy Commissioner, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, Office of the District Social Welfare Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat and Kyrmen Foundation in Jaintia Eastern College Campus, Khliehriat.
Meghalaya Social Welfare Kyrmen Shylla said “Specially abled people should not be treated differently, they should be treated equally and opportunities should be given to motivate them”, the Minister said.
He also informed that the Government through the Social Welfare Department has taken the initiative for enhancement of financial assistance to Persons with Disabilities, Old Age Pension, and Widows under the Chief Minister’s Social Assistance Scheme (CMSAS).
Shylla also stated that after completion of the survey and assessment, the name of the beneficiaries (PWDs) will be registered so as to ensure that they received their entitled benefits.
Later, the Minister and other Dignitaries personally handed over the Aids and Appliances to the beneficiaries in which 200 PWDs received Tricycles, Wheel Chair, Artificial limbs, Hearing Aids, Auxiliary Crutches, Walker, CP chairs, and Smart Cane sensors.
Others who also spoke in the occasion were L Rymbai, Deputy Chief Executive Member of JHADC, R Passah, District Social Welfare Officer, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat, Mithun Roy, Secretary SAKSHAM, Tarun K Verma, P&O of Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya National Institute for Persons with Physical Disabilities (Divyangjan), S F. Dhar, President, Kyrmen Foundation, and F. Wann, MCS, EAC, East Jaintia Hills District, Khliehriat.
