AIIMS Guwahati hosts multispecialty health camp with drone-based healthcare services in Kamrup
In a groundbreaking initiative to enhance healthcare access for remote and underserved populations, AIIMS Guwahati conducted a multispecialty health camp at Batahidia Char Primary Health Centre (PHC) on December 10. This effort, carried out in collaboration with the District Health Society, Kamrup, addressed the medical needs of residents in the Chaygaon Block PHC area of Kamrup District, which includes isolated island communities.
The health camp saw active participation from a diverse team of specialists across departments such as General Medicine, Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Dermatology, ENT, Dentistry, Ophthalmology, Community and Family Medicine, and Pharmacology. A dedicated drone and remote medicine team also played a pivotal role in facilitating healthcare delivery. Over 200 patients were provided consultations, addressing various medical concerns.
A key highlight of the event was the use of drone technology for transporting diagnostic samples. Samples collected from patients at the camp were swiftly delivered to AIIMS Guwahati for analysis, ensuring rapid diagnostics and timely follow-up care. This drone-based service, part of an ongoing partnership involving AIIMS Guwahati, National Health Mission (NHM) Assam, and the Joint Director of Health Services, Kamrup, exemplifies a scalable solution for healthcare delivery in hard-to-reach riverine areas.
AIIMS Guwahati Executive Director Dr. Ashok Puranik emphasized the institution’s dedication to bridging healthcare gaps, stating, “AIIMS Guwahati is committed to serving remote communities by leveraging technology and medical expertise to bring essential healthcare services closer to the people.”
The health camp at Batahidia Char PHC highlights the transformative potential of combining traditional medical services with cutting-edge technology like drones to serve marginalized and geographically isolated populations. This initiative sets a precedent for future healthcare innovations to reach the most vulnerable communities.
The success of this health camp underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in overcoming logistical and geographic barriers to healthcare, paving the way for a healthier, more inclusive future.
