AITC files FIR against fake press release
The opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Friday lodged a complaint against miscreants for circulating a fake press release in the name of its national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee on June 29.
In the complaint submitted to the Officer Incharge Cyber Cell police station, Meghalaya Pradesh Trinamool Congress Committee (MPTCC) vice president James S Lyngdoh said, “It is therefore requested to take strict action and arrests against these miscreants and also to trace the first mobile user which had circulated the fake press release that had been circulated in different social media platforms by taking immediate necessary action under the relevant sections of the Information and Technology Act, 2000 with immediate effect.”
He said the AITC in the state of Meghalaya had organized a grassroot party workers meeting and the inauguration of the party office on June 29, where the general secretary Abhishek Banerjee had visited the party office.

Shockingly, the same evening a fake press release dated June 29, in the letter head of the party with the signature of the national general secretary was circulated by unknown miscreants defaming the party’s image by stating that the party had announced the second list of the names of two candidates namely Vicky Dey and Patricia Mukhim, Editor of the Shillong Times to contest in the upcoming 2023 assembly elections.
This is completely a fake, false and fabricated press report by unknown people/miscreants to intentionally defame and malign the image of the party and also the name and image of Patricia Mukhim, who is a padmashree recipient and a well-known personality in the society, he said.
