AITC questions failure of BJP-led NDA govt to send investigating team to probe into MDA “misdeeds”
The opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Friday questioned the failure of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led NDA government to send the central investigating team to probe into the alleged “misdeeds” of the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government in the state.
After chairing the state executive committee meeting of the Meghalaya Pradesh Trinamool Youth Congress (MPTYC), its president Fernandez S Dkhar told reporters that the BJP through its social media page “Meghalaya with Modi” had exposed the rampant corruption within the MDA government, which they are part and parcel.
“On a serious note, the government of India should look into this especially the promises made by the Prime Minister during his campaign (against corruption) but if he (PM) is not sending any team to investigate then it is just lip service from him,” he said.
Dkhar said not only the BJP, but even the United Democratic Alliance (UDP), which is the main ally of the MDA, had raised the same issue of corruption.
“But I don’t know if they still stick with the corrupt government,” he said.
He further observed that the coalition partners of MDA are fighting among themselves rather than concentrating their fight against the only opposition AITC in the state.
Asked, MPTYC president said, “When the MDA government was formed it was with their (BJP) blessing, so why will they pull out, rather than supporting their corruption, they should bring all agencies and start doing the work and give justice to our people.”
He also asked the BJP to stop playing double standard and start practicing what they preach against corruption.
Dkhar also urged the people of the state to be wise while choosing the next government in 2023.
Referring to the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), he said the MDA has supported this act despite it being against tribal sentiments. The issue also reflects badly on the regional parties who are supporting the MDA government.
“The UDP and HSPDP now and then are totally different. Had Hopingstone Lyngdoh still alive, the HSPDP will immediately withdraw support from the MDA but sad to see the HSPDP now are trying to lobby for their self gain. UDP also says they are against the CAA and border issue but at the end of the day they sign the paper (MoU),” he said.
