AITC spokesperson seeks action against NPP’s failure to file election expenditures
National spokesperson of the opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) Saket Gokhale has sought the Meghalaya High Court’s intervention into the alleged failure of the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) to file its election expenditure report within 75 days of the State Assembly elections in 2018.
A statement issued on Wednesday said Gokhale in his plea has called to attention the failure of the Election Commission of India and the Chief Electoral Officer, Meghalaya to take necessary action against the NPP for flouting the law.
According to the orders of the Supreme Court of India and the subsequent rules framed by the Election Commission of India, political parties are required to file their election expenditure reports with the Chief Electoral Officer of the state within 75 days of assembly election or 90 days of Lok Sabha elections.
It is not only shocking but also appalling to witness how the NPP is weakening the pillars of democracy at their whims and fancies, the statement said.
