Albinush Marak elected as new GHADC chief
National People’s Party (NPP) MDC from Siju Albinush Marak on Saturday was elected as the new Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
Marak defeated AITC backed candidate Dhormonath Sangma by securing 17 votes.
The election was also held following massive protests against the election of Rakesh A Sangma as CEM.
NPP national president and chief minister Conrad K Sangma also took to twitter to congratulate the new CEM.
“Heartiest congratulations to Albinush R Marak on being elected as the new CEM of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC). May he execute his duties in the best interest of Garo Hills,” Conrad said.
Marak had to resign as GHADC chairman in order to contest the election for the CEM’s post.
In his place, Sengchim Sangma was elected new chairman of the GHADC on Friday. He defeated AITC MDC Rinaldo K Sangma.
