Alleged attempt kidnapping in a city school, a case of ‘misunderstanding’: Police
State police on Thursday said the alleged attempted kidnapping at Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Shillong was a case of misunderstanding.
In a statement, SP (City) Vivek Syiem said in connection with the incident yesterday whereby two persons had come to Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Higher Secondary School, Shillong in the afternoon to pick up a class KG child which had been presumed to be a case of attempted kidnaping, it may be informed that today the two same persons came to Laitumkhrah Police Station after hearing of the allegation of kidnapping.
“On enquiring into the matter, it is ascertained that the two persons came to pick up their nephew, a child of class KG and gave the petname of the child (which was not known to the teacher) instead of the official name to the class teacher. The petname of the child also happened to be the name of a child in the same class, hence the misunderstanding,” he said.
The SP informed that parents of both the children have appeared at the Police Station including the Principal and class teacher of Laitumkhrah Presbyterian Higher Secondary school.
“The matter has been verified and confirmed that the case is one of misunderstanding,” he stated.
