Amarsing Tisso among 9 candidates file nominations for 2nd phase of LS poll in Assam
9 candidates have filed their nominations for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections for five seats in Assam on Tuesday.
In the second phase, the polling will be conducted in Nagaon, Diphu, Darrang-Udalguri, Karimganj and Silchar on April 26.
Of nine candidates, one candidate filed his paper for Darrang Udalguri, one in Diphu, 2 in Karimganj, 3 in Silchar and 2 candidates filed their papers in the Nagaon constituency.
According to the poll schedule, (Thursday) April 4 will be the last date for filing nomination, April 5 will be the date of scrutiny and April 8 will be the last date of withdrawal of nomination.
Accompanied by Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, BJP candidate Amarsing Tisso filed his nominations before the returning officer at Diphu on Tuesday.
Followed by a rally of more than 10,000 people, Tisso was also accompanied by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) CEM Tuliram Ronghang, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) CEM Debolal Gorlosa, Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) chief Pramod Boro, power minister Nandita Gorlosa, Assam Assembly deputy speaker Numal Momin and sitting MP Horensing Bey.
Addressing the rally, chief minister Sarma said: “Amarsing Tisso will win the seat by a margin of more than 3 lakh votes. In the last election, our candidate Horensing Bey won this seat by a margin of 2.30 lakh votes. This time we expect the margin will be increased to 3 lakh.”
Talking about APHLC candidate JI Kathar, Sarma said: “Kathar can’t bear fruit for the constituency because his party has neither government in Dispur nor in Delhi. What he will do for the constituency?”
“This time we will focus on more development of Karbi Anglong. Those who have got ration cards will get Orunodoi along with it. We are surveying to ascertain the number of the ration card holder families who have not been covered by Orunodoi scheme,” Sarma said.
“We will make arrangements to provide Orunidoi to each family of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao within 2024,” the chief minister said.
The chief minister also announced that each girl would be provided Rs 10,000 for admission in Degree courses, and Rs 25,000 for university courses. This year we are also setting up a state university in Diphu.
He also added that Rs 20 thousand crore has been sanctioned to both Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao for the development of roads in the last fiscal.
In Silchar, Independent candidate Raju Das, SUCI candidate Prabhash Chandra Sarkar, and Bengali Navanirman Sena candidate Barindra Kumar Das filed their papers before the returning officer Rohan Kumar Jha on Tuesday.
In Karimganj constituency, AOUDF candidate Sahabul Islam Choudhury and an independent candidate Binay Krishna Roy filed their papers before the returning officer on Tuesday.
On Monday, two other candidates- SUCI candidate Prajjal Sudip Dev and independent candidate Dilip Kumar filed their papers.
BJP candidate for Karimganj, Kripanath Mollah and for Silchar Parimal Suklabaidya will file their nomination in the presence of chief minister Sarma on Wednesday.
In Nagaon, 2 independent candidates Sikha Sharma and Abu Shama filed their nominations on Tuesday.
In Darrang-Udalguri also, VPI candidate Lalit Pegu filed his nomination before the returning officer at Udalguri.
BJP candidate Dilip Kumar Saikia and BPF candidate Durga Das Boro will file nominations on Thursday.
