AMSSASTA writes to PM for enhancing salary of over 13,000 SSA teachers in Meghalaya
The All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers Association (AMSSASTA) on Monday sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s intervention for enhancing the salary of over 13,000 SSA teachers.
“(We) urge you to kindly take prompt action regarding the enhancement of SSA teachers’ salary,” the association said in a letter to Modi.
“Considering the cost of living and inflation and in the midst of such horrible suffering of SSA teachers in the state, we request and seek your kind intervention to approach the education incharge of Meghalaya and concerned authorities to fulfil our demands with immediate effect before the situation deteriorated for SSA teachers of Meghalaya,” it added.
According to the association, the last enhancement was done in 2016-17. The salary increment ranges from Rs 9200 to 19044 for LP teachers and Rs 9900 to Rs 20493 for UP teachers.
The AMSSASTA is staging its ongoing indefinite sit-in-demonstration, which has entered the 7th day, for demanding 100 percent salary enhancement.
“Currently our salary has not been enhanced till date, which in turn has been causing immense economic problems, great hardship in looking after the children pursuing in different streams and grades of education.
The great economic hardship being faced the SSA teachers is due to rise of living and cost of imparting education to the children coupled with GST and other economic duties, SSA teachers have been hard pressed and compelled to cry out to you seeking your kind benevolence and immediate intervention at this juncture,” it said.
The association also added, “Due to reluctance of the state government of Meghalaya to fulfil our demands, we the SSA teachers from all sections of religions and communities were compelled to take out sit-in-demonstration in shillong since October 1 till this Puja vacation to show our protest against the failure of the state government.”
