An Anganwadi Centre with a different set up in Meghalaya
The Anganwadi Centre is an important presence in any village/ locality, delivering a range of services meant for children from 0-6 years, pregnant and lactating mothers. These centres provide supplementary nutrition, immunization support, non-formal pre-school education, health education, check ups and referral services.
A beautiful Anganwadi Centre at Mawdiangdiang was inaugurated this week by the office of the Block Development Officer, Mawpat C&RD Block. Called ‘My Anganwadi : A model (Mini) Anganwadi Centre’, this Centre was inaugurated in the presence of Charles Pyngrope, MLA 21 Nongthymmai AC and Isawanda Laloo, Deputy Commissioner.
The model Anganwadi Centre was the result of active convergence between MGNREGS, Social Welfare Department, Civic Action Program 2019 of CRPF 67Bn, Fisheries Department, SBM-G, VEC, the community and individuals’ private contributions.
BDO, Mawpat Monica Kshir mobilised support for this centre in order to make it a child-friendly, safe, attractive and welcoming place for children, while exhibiting model features for cleanliness, sanitation, waste management, organic nutritional support through nutri-garden, and early stimulation activities, infant games and play materials crucial for all-round development of children in their formative years.
The highlight of the program and Anganwadi centre were the Health camp for children conducted by NEIAH, SHG sale counter by 4 SHGs of Lapalang viz.Jygyasa, Pragati, Sunrise and Lucky, kitchen garden by VEC, donation box for upkeep of AWC donated by TAs (MGNREGS), Mawpat, Aquarium from Directorate of Fisheries, Story Books donated by New Book Store, Laitumkhrah and Khasi Book Agency, Mawkhar.
The function was also attended by Arindam Das, Director NIFT, V. Suresh, Executive Director POSOCO, Fr. G. Wanniang, Director BIDS, C. Noronha, Executive Director Bethany Society, R.L. Blah, Secretary SNSBH, officials from line departments and Dorbar Shnong members.
