Anveshan 2025: IIM Shillong’s first MUN brings young leaders together

IIM Shillong hosted its first-ever Model United Nations (MUN), Anveshan 2025, bringing together some of the brightest young minds from across the country. Supported by Punjab National Bank (PNB) as the official event partner, the conference fostered dynamic discussions, policy negotiations, and crisis simulations.

The inaugural edition featured two prestigious committees. The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) deliberated on The Rise of Conflict and Non-State Actors and Their Impact on Governance in the Middle East. Meanwhile, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) conducted a Continuous Crisis Simulation, challenging participants’ diplomatic and strategic decision-making skills.

The event opened with an inspiring keynote address by Dr. Kaustubh Sonalkar, a noted industry leader, former CHRO of major Indian conglomerates, author, and advisor at NITI Aayog. A prominent thought leader in policy and leadership, Dr. Sonalkar shared insights on global governance and decision-making. As a token of appreciation, he presented his national best-selling book, Fetch Your Own Coffee, to Prof. D.P. Goyal, Director of IIM Shillong.

Participants had the opportunity to engage with policymakers, academicians, and industry leaders while experiencing the intellectual vibrancy of IIM Shillong. The event also encouraged networking, faculty interactions, and cultural exchange, culminating in a memorable experience with musical performances and a bonfire night.

To honour outstanding performances, Anveshan 2025 recognized Sanskriti Modgal from St. Edmund’s as the Best Delegate for representing Saudi Arabia in UNGA, while Md Rezaul Islam from St. Anthony’s received the same recognition for representing the United States in UNSC. High Commendation and Special Mention awards were also presented to participants for their exceptional contributions.

With its blend of debate, diplomacy, leadership development, and cultural exchange, Anveshan 2025 has set a high benchmark and aspires to become a premier MUN conference in the years to come.
