Any party forming EC in ADCs will need blessings of NPP: Lyngdoh
NPP leader and cabinet minister Ampareen Lyngdoh on Thursday said it would be difficult for any party, which will form the new executive committee in any of the district councils, to achieve anything if it doesn’t get the blessings of the National People’s Party, which is leading the government in the state.
Speaking to media persons, Lyngdoh said, “I am yet to understand what will be the catchline for the MDC elections. But one thing…you may have any party forming an EC in any of the district councils, if you don’t get the blessings of the NPP it will be difficult for you to achieve anything. That’s the way politics work.”
Stating that the NPP is prepared to face the upcoming ADC polls, the minister said, “Like any other elections why would we not be focused about the MDC election, of course, as a party we are focus. There will be challenges. Which election is without challenges? How will the results pan out, we are not soothsayers nor are we pandits to give any proclamation of things to come.”
She also emphasized the need for the players in the party to work hard and present positive report cards ahead of the polls.
On the other hand, Lyngdoh however lamented that report cards submission in 2018 and 2023 have all gone out of the window somehow as nobody really cared what an MLA or an MDC did for the constituency because some other emotion or mantra is trying to hold the population to ransom.
“So I don’t know whether the population will remember or not what the MLAs or MDCs have done for them. I don’t know whether they are reviewing what MPs have done for them or have not done for them. It seems like everybody is on this emotional high. I don’t know whether that same emotional high will again blind everybody but times will tell,” he said.
Reminding that the MDA government has three more years, Lyngdoh said, “Don’t underestimate us. It doesn’t matter what happens in the the district council elections. You cannot survive if you are not on the same page with the government, which is ruling the state.”
Asked, Lyngdoh said, “Because democracy in India is always ruled by factors beyond comprehension. It doesn’t really matter who has done what. People get into this high and gosh I hope I will not be a victim of that emotional high. I hope the people will remember my contributions and what I have tried to do or what I even failed to do. It is good for us to be kind to the public, who will always scrutinize us. It is something which is disconnected with work, something which is disconnected with reality can dictate the minds of voters. Well this is the beauty of Indian politics.”
Hailing the performance of the NPP, she said, “Politics in India is unique in every way. You cannot predict what will happen. I will not talk about any other political party except the NPP. We are doing a good job. We have settled scores which have never been settled for generations. We are trying to be friendly to the best people. Where will you find a chief minister humbling himself in unknown territory talking to the public on CM Connect. Have you seen? I am yet to see one.”
Appealing for unification of the North East, the senior woman legislator said, “My political party continues to say unite, come under one party, let’s look at the unification of the North East, let’s give a voice for ourselves to India, which is the biggest concern in this day and age. NE is getting disintegrated. Are we all going to be watching this without an opinion? I don’t know what our people want. We are busy fighting amidst communities in our state. Is that what we want?
I thought that in the 21st century by this era, we would have decided that let us unify ourselves and face that government, which needs to listen to us but here divide and rule seems to be most suitable. Maybe we are still stuck by that British raij mindset. Divide them and rule them.”
