Arunachal Cabinet kickstarts 2025 with major projects in healthcare, hydropower, and infra development
The first Cabinet meeting of 2025, chaired by Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu in Itanagar, laid out ambitious initiatives aimed at boosting healthcare, hydropower, and infrastructure development across the state. Key projects approved during the meeting underscore the government’s commitment to socioeconomic growth and efficient governance.
The Cabinet approved a proposal to establish a 100-seat medical college and a 420-bed hospital in Namsai under the Aspirational District Programme. Developed in a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, this Rs 375 crore project aims to bridge healthcare service gaps and foster medical education in the region.
To bolster Arunachal’s hydropower potential, the Cabinet granted SGST reimbursement concessions for two major hydroelectric projects Tato II Hydroelectric Project (700 MW) on the Siyom River, Shi Yomi district and Kamala Hydroelectric Project (1,720 MW) on the Kamala River, Upper Subansiri district.
These projects, valued at approximately Rs 35,000 crore, are projected to generate Rs 470 crore in free power and Rs 79 crore in Local Area Development Funds annually. Implemented as joint ventures between the state government and Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs), they will foster employment, upskill local workers, and create essential infrastructure to uplift local communities.
The Cabinet approved the Arunachal Pradesh Policy for Restoration of Terminated Large Hydropower Projects under Special Circumstances, 2025, to revive projects that had achieved substantial progress but were previously terminated. This move is expected to encourage timely restoration, attract investment, and generate employment.
The Can=binet also gave its nod for 20 JE (Civil) positions were elevated to ASW and AE roles to address administrative stagnation and ensure better resource management.
The Cabinet further approved the proposal for the creation of 36 posts to boost departmental operational capacity.
The Cabinet also approved the proposal for sanctioning of 32 teaching and non-teaching posts for Government Engineering College, Tezu, to improve academic capacity and skill development.
It further gave its nod for the creation of an Electrical Sub-Division at Chambang and a new PWD Division at Koloriang, along with a Sub-Division at Damin, to accelerate infrastructure and power management in Kurung Kumey district.
These decisions reflect Arunachal Pradesh’s strategic focus on comprehensive development, leveraging its untapped hydroelectric potential and expanding essential services for the well-being of its citizens. The approved projects and policies set the stage for a transformative year ahead, propelling the state towards a brighter future.
