ASPF urges South Garo Hills DC to complete half-done road projects

Expressing concern over the road blockade due to rain-induced landslides in the South Garo Hills district, the A-Chik State Peoples’ Front (ASPF) urged the deputy commissioner for the completion of incomplete road projects to prevent future disasters.
The recent heavy rainfall has caused multiple road blockades due to landslides in various locations: the PWD link road from Dimapara to Ruga area was blocked at Meka Adu, two more roads were blocked at Panda village and Dikrong village and the PWD NH Road was also blocked at Bolsalgre near Baghmara Circuit House.
These incidents highlight the critical need for effective infrastructure management and timely completion of road projects to mitigate such issues in the future.
The authorities have cleared the roads for traffic.
However, the concerns raised by ASPF regarding the completion of pending road works are valid, especially considering the potential risks to lives and public property due to incomplete infrastructure. Timely action on these projects is crucial to ensure the safety and convenience of the local residents and travellers.
The ASPF underscores the urgency of the situation caused by excessive rainfall and incomplete infrastructure works, particularly highlighting the risk of soil erosion and road blockades on the Baghmara Rongara Highway stretch.
Their memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner emphasizes the potential danger to public lives and property if immediate action isn’t taken to address these issues.
This situation calls for swift and effective measures to ensure the safety and stability of the affected roadways.
