Assam CEO inks pact with ASRLM, ASULM to ensure 100% voting in LS polls
Assam chief electoral officer (CEO) on Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding with Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission (ASRLM) and Assam State Urban Livelihood Mission (ASURLM) to ensure 100 per cent polling in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
The MoU was signed under the SVEEP, a flagship programme of the Election Commission of India (ECI) for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India.
The memorandum signing was attended by joint CEOs Pankaj Chakravorty, Emily Baruah and other senior officials of ASRLM and ASULM.
Under the agreement, the ASRLM will spread awareness among 39 lakh rural voters out of 2.43 crore voters of the state to exercise their franchise in the upcoming elections.
Under the clauses of the agreement, the Sarathi Women Help Desk will be opened at various government settlements, including the gram panchayat office and cooperative society office, CLF and VO office to facilitate women voters to verify their names and detect on the electoral roll. The Help Desk will also help women voters to get acquainted with the helpline numbers 1950.
One active member from each SHG will be identified as “sarathi baideo”, the criteria of selection of which will be finalized by ASRLM.
The ASRLM will also spread special awareness of voter rights among prospective voters within the block and cluster villages.
It will also spread the “Leave No One Behind campaign” focusing on elderly voters (above 85 years and Person with Disabilities (PwD) voters within the block and cluster areas.
Similarly, the ASULM also spreads awareness among the voters of urban areas through the distribution of leaflets, a handbook and rules and regulations and helps the district electoral officer (DEO) to prepare a list of voters of above 85 pears and PwD voters.
The ASURLM will have to organize special rallies to create awareness among rural voters living in urban areas.
ASURLM project manager Kisholoy Das, Debasish Baruah and Rekib Ahmed ASRLM chief executive officer (CEO) Dr Himadri KC, project manager Rosike Baruah and other senior officials were present at the function.
