Assam CM to grace celebrations of Bhutan’s 117th National Day
At the gracious invitation of the Royal Government of Bhutan, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma arrived in Bhutan on Monday for a four-day official visit, spanning December 16 to 19. This visit carries immense diplomatic and cultural significance, marking a new chapter in the deep ties between Assam and Bhutan.
During his stay, Chief Minister Sarma is scheduled to meet with Bhutan’s King and Prime Minister. A highlight of the visit will be his participation in the grand celebrations of Bhutan’s 117th National Day.
Upon their arrival at Paro Airport, Chief Minister Sarma and his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sharma, received a warm and ceremonious welcome. Welcoming them were Lyonpo D. N. Dhungyel, Bhutan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Sudhakar Dalela, India’s Ambassador to Bhutan, and Kesang Deki, Cabinet Secretary of the Royal Government of Bhutan, along with other dignitaries.
The reception was further enriched by Bhutanese youth showcasing Assam’s vibrant Bihu alongside Bhutan’s traditional dances, creating a mesmerizing display of shared cultural heritage and goodwill.
This visit marks Sarma’s first trip to Bhutan since assuming the office of Chief Minister of Assam, underscoring the enduring historical ties and bonds of friendship between Assam and Bhutan. The diplomatic engagement promises to strengthen these connections further, paving the way for a more robust and dynamic partnership between the two neighbours.
