Assam Governor attends Busu Dima Festival, praises Dimasa society for preserving cultural heritage
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended the vibrant Busu Dima Festival at Maibong Degree College, Dima Hasao, on Thursday during his two-day visit to the district. Extending his warm wishes to the people, he lauded the Dimasa community for preserving and celebrating their rich cultural traditions.
Speaking at the event, Governor Acharya highlighted the Busu Dima Festival as more than just an agricultural celebration—it embodies culture, traditions, and social unity. “This festival reaffirms the values of cooperation, hard work, and unity passed down through generations. Agriculture is not merely a means of livelihood but the foundation of our heritage,” he remarked. He emphasized how festivals like Busu Dima reflect the deep-rooted connection between agriculture and cultural identity.
The Governor praised the Dimasa society for upholding the festival, which he believes plays a key role in promoting agricultural practices. He reiterated the economic importance of agriculture in Dima Hasao, Assam, and India, acknowledging the tireless efforts of farmers in sustaining the nation. Acharya called for further exploration of agricultural potential to drive national growth and prosperity.
Highlighting the transformation of agriculture from a traditional occupation into a modern, self-reliant industry, the Governor stressed the importance of innovation, technology, and scientific research. He also underscored the government’s commitment to farmer welfare, mentioning various schemes aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of farmers.
Acharya urged the people, especially youth, to embrace modernization and technology while staying rooted in their cultural heritage. He emphasized the preservation of language, traditional dances, music, and customs, asserting that economic progress must go hand in hand with cultural and academic prosperity. Addressing climate change, he advocated for water conservation, organic farming, and sustainable agricultural practices.
During the event, the Governor paid tribute to freedom fighter Sambhudhan Phonglo for his sacrifice in India’s independence struggle. He also honored Late Bhadeshwar Bodo (“Bodo Sir”), a revered educationist and founder of Maibong Degree College, by inaugurating the Bhadeshwar Bodo Sports Complex as part of his district tour.
Later, the Governor held a review meeting with key officials of NCHAC, alongside CEM Debolal Gorlosa and other EMs, assessing the progress of PMAY-G, JJM, Ayushman Card, Amrit Sarovar, TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, and other schemes. He commended officials for their sincere efforts in implementing the Amrit Sarovar projects in the district.
