Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya visits Dima Hasao, engages with villagers on development and welfare
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya visited Samparidisa village in Dima Hasao on Wednesday as part of his maiden tour of the district, interacting with villagers and assessing the implementation of various government welfare schemes.
During his visit, the Governor engaged with local residents, gathering firsthand insights into the impact of Central and state welfare programs on their lives. He also met with self-help groups and community members to discuss rural livelihoods and economic progress.
Addressing the villagers, Acharya highlighted the collective efforts of the Central, state, and autonomous council governments in driving development in Samparidisa and the wider Dima Hasao region. He acknowledged the contributions of social leaders and forefathers, urging the community to uphold their legacy of progress and work towards inclusive development.
The Governor also stressed the importance of preserving the district’s cultural heritage, language, and traditions, emphasizing that sustainable growth must go hand in hand with cultural identity.
Acharya underscored the importance of essential services such as clean drinking water, education, and healthcare, urging villagers to fully utilize government schemes like Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) – Ensuring safe drinking water supply, Orunodoi – Financial aid for economically disadvantaged families and PM-Kisan – Support for farmers’ welfare.
He also inspected the progress of the Samparidisa Piped Water Supply Scheme, executed under JJM, and emphasized long-term maintenance for its sustainability.
Commending the villagers for their commitment to cleanliness and environmental conservation, the Governor expressed hope that their efforts would serve as an inspiration for others across the district and beyond. He encouraged them to continue their initiatives in keeping their surroundings green and sustainable.
During his visit, Acharya also visited Samparidisa LP School, interacting with students and teachers. He directed the Headmaster to ensure high-quality Mid-Day Meals for children.
He also met a Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) beneficiary family, discussing their experience and the improvements in their quality of life after receiving housing support.
Upon arriving in Haflong town, the Governor paid tribute to freedom fighter Martyr Sambhudhan Phonglo on his 143rd death anniversary, honouring his contribution to India’s independence.
Later in the day, Acharya chaired a review meeting with the Deputy Commissioner (DC), Superintendent of Police (SP), and other officials to assess the pace of development and the implementation of various welfare schemes in the district.
