Assam Governor urges farmers, artisans, and entrepreneurs to drive self-reliance in Assam and BTR
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya, during his visit to Kokrajhar for the historic first-ever Assam Assembly Session held outside Guwahati, engaged in an interactive meeting with farmers, artisans, weavers, and entrepreneurs at the Central Institute of Technology (CIT) on Sunday.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Acharya praised their contributions in agriculture, weaving, and entrepreneurship, emphasizing their crucial role in Assam’s economic growth. He highlighted that their efforts in organic farming and small-scale enterprises are essential in driving the state and the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) toward self-reliance.
“India has a rich agrarian heritage, and micro and small enterprises play a significant role in our economy. The dedication of our farmers, weavers, artisans, and entrepreneurs has been extraordinary in making Assam and BTR self-sufficient,” Acharya stated. He encouraged them to become role models for the next generation, helping Assam establish itself as a hub of innovation and entrepreneurship.
The Governor also commended the Central Government, under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, for its continued efforts in supporting farmers through various welfare schemes. He urged those present to take full advantage of these initiatives and work toward sustainable agricultural practices. Stressing the potential of organic and climate-resilient farming, he noted that modern farming techniques could transform farmers into employment generators.
Acharya further encouraged attendees to tune in to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Mann Ki Baat, calling it an inspirational program that provides new ideas to improve livelihoods.
As part of the event, the Governor ceremoniously handed over essential goods to the District Commissioner of Kokrajhar under the Governor Assam Amrit Sarovar Sadbhavna Sangat Protsahan Yojana for distribution to beneficiaries.
The programme was attended by BTC Chief Executive Member (CEM) Pramod Boro, BTC Principal Secretary Akashdeep, Padma Shri Awardee Dr. Mangal Singh Hazowary, Dr. Anil Kumar Boro, and other dignitaries.
