Assam Guv honours NCC NER’s best cadets, institutes, and staff at annual awards
Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended the annual award ceremony of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) North Eastern Region (NER) at Dr. Bani Kanta Kakati Auditorium on Tuesday. The event recognized the outstanding contributions of cadets, educational institutions, and NCC staff from all seven northeastern states for the year 2024-25.
In his address, Governor Acharya praised the awardees for their dedication and discipline, calling NCC cadets the “strength of the nation.” He urged them to emulate the courage and leadership of national heroes like Captain Vikram Batra and Lieutenant Umar Fayaz, emphasizing their role in nation-building.
“NCC is not just about discipline; it instils leadership, self-reliance, and a spirit of service,” Acharya said. “It strengthens social and cultural harmony and inspires young individuals to become responsible citizens.”
A total of 55 awards were presented to individuals and institutions for their contributions to the NCC. Jorhat was awarded Best NCC Group of NER, while 5 Assam Battalion NCC won Best NCC Unit of NER. The Best ANO (Female) award went to Lt. Moitree Hazarika of South Point School, Guwahati, and Capt. J.P. Upadhya from Meghalaya was named Best ANO (Male).
Among cadets, SUO Veerjyoti Sharma of Silchar was declared Best Cadet (Male), while SUO Bhawana Thapa received the title of Best Cadet (Female) for the entire NER.
The event was attended by Minister of Sports and Youth Welfare Nandita Garlosa, senior Army officials, including Major General Gagan Deep, Sena Medal, ADG NCC NER, NCC Group Commanders, and representatives from the State Bank of India’s Defence Advisory team.
The ceremony highlighted NCC’s pivotal role in shaping disciplined and service-oriented youth, reinforcing its significance in the region’s social and national development.
