Assam records 75.57% voter turnout in 4 LS seats in 3rd phase, Dhubri tops
Despite inclement weather, Assam recorded 75.30% voter turnout during the third phase of Lok Sabha elections in four constituencies on Tuesday.
The third phase of voting was conducted in Guwahati, Dhubri, Barpeta and Kokrajhar constituencies.
Till 8 pm, Dhubri recorded the highest voter turnout 79.70% followed by Barpeta 77.72%, Kokrajhar 74.24 and Guwahati recorded 68.93% voter turnout.
“The voter turnout may further increase as voting in many polling stations is yet to be recorded. Due to rain, the voter turnout goes up in the evening hours,” said an official of the Election Commission (EC) here.
Under Dhubri parliamentary constituency, 79.56% voter turnout was recorded in Golokganj LAC segment, 80.04% in Gauripur, 71.32% in Dhubri, 83.21% in Birsing-Jarua, 81% in Bilasipara, 86.48% in Mankachar, 75.47% Jaleswar, 77.19% in Goalpara East, 78.37 in Goalpara West, 75.21% in Srijangram, 79.78% in Mandia and 84.23% voter turnout was recorded in Chenga LAC segment.
Under Barpeta LS seat, 74.62% voter turn was recorded in Abhayapuri LAC segment, 81.20% in Bongaigaon, 73.50% in Bhawanipur-Sarbhog, 80.89% in Barpeta, 80.26% in Pakabetbari, 71.20% in Bajali, 68.24% in Hajo-Sualkuchi, 78.03% in Barkhetri, 79% in Nalbari and 79% voter turnout was recorded in Tihu LAC segment.
Under Kokrajhar Lok Sabha constituency, 76% voter turnout was recorded in Gossaingaon LAC segment, 77.40% in Dotoma, 74.67% in Kokrahar, 76.16% in Baokhungri, 80% in Parbatjhora, 74% in Sidli-Chirang, 75% in Bijni, 68% in Manas and 70.67% voter turnout was recorded in Baksa LAC segment.
Under Guwahati Lok Sabha constituency, 78.37% voter turnout was recorded in Goalpara West LAC segment, 77.58% in Dudhnoi, 67.13% in Chamaria, 64.32% Boko-Chaygaon, 67.22% in Palashbari62.16% in Dispur, 69.50% in Dimoria, 68.36% in New Guwahati, 71.14% in Guwahati Central and 68.24% voter turnout was recorded in Jalukbari LAC segment.
Accompanied by his wife and his daughter, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma cast his vote at a polling booth in Amingaon High School Polling Booth under Barpeta Lok Sabha constituency 2.45 pm.
Sarma said, “Today is the last day of the Assam election, and we have peacefully completed the three phases with a recorded voter turnout of 80 per cent. I am sure we will register more than 80 per cent turnout in polling today. The people of Assam will support a ‘Bharat’ which will become a ‘Vishwaguru’ and achieve its goal in ‘Amrit Kal’.”
Sarma expressed gratitude to the people of the state for peaceful voting.
“No violence has been reported in Assam during voting. I am sure that the BJP party will do well in the election and help Prime Minister Modi become the Prime Minister for the third time,” he added.
Congress candidate Mira Borthakur Goswami cast her vote at Narbam LP School (East wing) at 7.30 am on Tuesday.
BJP candidate Bijuli Kalita Medhi cast her vote at East Guwahati High School Polling Centre at Jyoti Nagar in the city at 7 am.
In Kokrajhar BPF candidate and former deputy chief of BTC Kampa Borgoyari cast his vote at a polling booth in Runikhata in the morning.
“I am very confident. Today irrespective of religion, caste, creed and area, all people have come forward to cast vote in favour of me. That is why I am very confident,” Borgoyari told reporters.
“There is no fight for BPF as BPF is winning. We are getting more than 70 per cent of votes,” he added.
NDA candidate Jayanta Basumatary cast his vote at Tabgabari LP School Polling station under Sidli Chirang LAC in the morning.
BPF chief and former BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary cast his vote at Debargaon HS School.
State textile minister and UPPL leader UG Brahma cast his vote at Salani Bathbari LP School in Dotoma.
In Barpeta, NDA candidate Phani Bhushan Choudhury cast his vote at Birjhara Girls HS School Polling Station at Borpara in Bongaigaon town.
Congress candidate Deep Bayan and his rival CPI-M candidate Manoranjan Talukdar also cast their votes.
In Dhubri, NDA candidate Zabed Islam cast his vote at AA Latif Girls Institute, Mankachar.
