Assam started construction of roads along border of West Jaintia Hills District
The State of Assam once again encroached into the territory of Meghalaya by constructing a road from Umkhyrmi, Assam to border of West Jaintia Hills District along Khatkasla-Psiar village.
The construction of the road prompted the District Administration West Jaintia Hills District to conduct a spot inspection to assess the situation at the ground level.
Executive Magistrate W K Kharbuki accompanied by DSP AJ Sangma and Laskein BDO B Niang and the police force carried out the inspection of the construction of the road.
On reaching the spot in Riat Kyn-o and Iurim Biam along the border of Khatkasla Psiar village, Kharbuki and his team observed labourers with JCB engaged in the digging of soils etc for making way for the roads.
According to Kharbuki, the contractor is a Khasi person from Meghalaya, who told him that the construction is from Umkhyrmi to Khatkasla and of about 10 kilometers. He also said that the contractor claimed that the construction of road is funded by Central Govt.
As directed by his higher up, Kharbuki stopped the construction of the road and directed the labourers to resume only after getting clearance.
