Assam to celebrate Bhasa Gourav Saptah from November 3 to 9
Assam is set to celebrate a momentous achievement with the observation of ‘Bhasa Gourav Saptah’, from November 3 to 9, 2024 in recognition of the Assamese language being accorded the status of a ‘Classical Language’ by the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced this on Sunday through his social media, highlighting the historical significance of this recognition for Assamese culture and heritage.
In addition to Assamese, the Union Cabinet approved the classical status for Marathi, Pali, Prakrit, and Bengali languages on October 3, 2024. This recognition acknowledges the deep historical and cultural contributions of these languages to India’s linguistic legacy.
As part of the Bhasa Gourav Saptah, special events will be organized across universities, schools, and civil society organizations. These events will honour the contributions of Assamese writers and scholars, whose literary works have shaped the language since the 4th century AD.
The celebration aims to deepen the people of Assam’s connection with their linguistic roots and express gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his gesture in preserving Assam’s language and cultural heritage.
Sarma has called for the cooperation of all sections of society to ensure the grand success of the celebration.
