Assembly Committee on Estimates conclude its 3-day inspection of pending projects in 5 districts
The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Estimates led by its chairman and Nongpoh legislator Mayralborn Syiem on Friday concluded its three-day inspection of pending projects in five districts of the state.
The primary focus of the inspection to Eastern West Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, East Garo Hills, West Garo Hills and Ri Bhoi – was to assess the status of stalled projects implemented by the Health department and the Education department in the region.
Syiem was accompanied by the members of the committee which include Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar, Raksamgre MLA Limison D. Sangma, Ampati MLA Miani D Shira, Jowai MLA Wailadmiki Shylla, Mawhati MLA Charles Marngar, Selsella MLA Arbinstone B. Marak, Rambrai Jyrngam MLA Remington Gabil Momin and Umroi MLA Damanbait Lamare.
The projects that were inspected on July 19, included the Residential School at Lawbyrtun in Mawthadraishan, Eastern West Khasi Hills district, the Polytechnic Institute in Nongstoin, West Khasi Hills district, Nongchram Demik Residential School in Rongjeng, East Garo Hills and Eklavya Model Residential School Samanda, under Nengkra, Samanda Block, East Garo Hills.
On July 20, the committee shifted its focus to West Garo Hills district, where spot inspections were carried out at the Trauma Centre at Tura Civil Hospital, Edenbari ABDK Residential School at Rongram.
The Estimates Committee concluded its tour in Ri Bhoi district today and the projects inspected includes Eklavya Model Residential School project at Pahamsyiem, Umling CRD Block, the Polytechnic at Nongkhrah, Nonglyngdoh village, Trauma Centre at Nongpoh Civil Hospital, Nongpoh and Maternal and Child Health Hospital at Umsning.
During the inspections, the Committee held extensive meetings with District Authorities and officials of Health Department, Education Department, PWD (Building) and other line departments.
Briefing presspersons on the last day of tour at Umsning, Committee Chairman Mayralborn Syiem emphasized the Committee’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the completion of pending projects at the earliest possible timeline.
The Chairman highlighted that the stalled progress of some projects could be attributed to various factors, including insufficient funds and discrepancies in project estimates but added that the committee will follow up on the projects to ensure the projects are completed in due course of time for the benefit of the public at large.
