Assembly panel asks govt to write to UDAI over delay in Aadhaar enrolment
The Assembly’s Committee on Women Empowerment on Thursday asked the state government to write to the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) for addressing the delay in generating Aadhaar cards for the state.
Member of the panel and Congress MLA from Mawsynram, Himalaya Shangpliang said the committee has reviewed the implementation of the Aadhaar scheme in the state and noted with concern over the delay in the generation of Aadhaar cards to the beneficiaries.
“In view of this, we have asked the state government to immediately write to the UDAI to address this matter at the earliest,” he said after the meeting.
According to him, there are various schemes of the government of India especially like those under the food and civil supply, Aadhaar card has been made mandatory.
He said the committee also expressed surprise to learn that the Aadhaar enrolment in South West Khasi Hills district is only at 13 percent compared to the other districts of the state. Shangpliang said that the government has been asked to increase the number of centres for Aadhaar enrolment.
Meanwhile, the committee has also reviewed the unemployment scenario in the state. Shangpliang said there are lots of people, who mostly are youths, including those who have come back to the state due to COVID-19 pandemic but were not being provided with job opportunities. He said the committee was informed that the government is in the process of formulating projects to address the concern.
