Athletics kick off with thrilling 5000-meter race at the 6th Meghalaya Games
The 6th Meghalaya Games saw an exhilarating start today as athletes competed in the 5000-meter race at Wahiajer Multi Sports Complex.
In the men’s category, Daniel Lyngdoh Wahlang from East Khasi Hills District clinched the gold medal with an impressive time of 16:03.42 seconds. Following closely, Kresstarjune Pathaw from South West Khasi Hills secured the silver medal with a time of 16:15.41 seconds, while Banjoplang Wanniang from West Khasi Hills took the bronze with a time of 16:18.84 seconds.
In the women’s category, the gold medal was awarded to Gloryfy Khurbah from East Khasi Hills District, who completed the race in 20:16.21 seconds. The silver medal went to Balasiewdor Pathaw from South West Khasi Hills, finishing with a time of 20:27.91 seconds, and Phyrnai Kyndait from East Jaintia Hills earned the bronze medal with a time of 20:40.57 seconds.
In the men’s high jump event, Simeon Marak from North Garo Hills triumphed by clearing a height of 1.83 meters to win the gold medal. Terang N Sangma from East Garo Hills District also cleared 1.83 meters, earning the silver medal, while Primus Ronghi from Ri Bhoi District secured the bronze medal with a height of 1.75 meters.
The opening day of athletics at the 6th Meghalaya Games showcased remarkable talent and sportsmanship, promising more exciting events in the days to come.
