AYUSH Minister Sarbananda Sonowal envisions the traditional system to enter the global stage
Union Minister of AYUSH, Sarbananda Sonowal said that the total number of footfalls in OPD is encouraging, and it creates a confidence among the common masses.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the Guest House built under Phase II project and laid the foundation stone of Administrative Block Building, Pharmacy building & Boundary wall with periphery road on Friday, February 23 at North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homeopathy (NEIAH).
“When the Director of NEIAH during her welcome speech mentioned about the total number of footfall in the OPD…..the figure is very encouraging in both Ayurveda and Homeopathy. So that reflects your credibility, whatever quality service you have rendered, ultimately that has created confidence among the common masses,” he said.
“The quality of treatment, practice, medicine, and research in NEIAH will be great so much so that people from all parts of the world will desire to visit the campus. We should make this institution one of the flagship institutions in the country and the world,” he said.
The union minister envisions NEIAH to become a part of Medical Value Travel.
Turning to the students, the Union Minister urged the students to be devoted to the traditional system of medicine and get themselves prepared for the future course of action to render best quality service to the mankind.

He said, “The very committed people involved in the traditional system of medicine who have given their best possible service and as a result, AYUSH is gaining popularity across the world and also earning credibility and as a result, size of the AYUSH market is growing faster.”
The Union Minister also launched multiple projects to scale up capacity at the North Eastern Institute of Ayurveda and Homoeopathy (NEIAH) at its campus in Mawdiangdiang.
The newly inaugurated Guest House has a total area of 1780.56 SqM to provide accommodation and conference facilities. The eco-friendly building is complete with all modern amenities. The upcoming
Administrative Building of NEIAH, with a floor area of 3160 SqM, will have one building (G+3) with two floors basement, including a multipurpose hall.
The estimated cost of this building is pegged at Rs 27.30 crores. The pharmacy building will be built with an investment of Rs 15.33 crores for a G+3 building with 1833 SqM. The boundary wall with Periphery Road with external electrification including Entry/Exit Gate is being built at an estimated cost of Rs 12.72 crores.

The Ayush Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also announced that Periperal OPD services will be started at Smit, East Khasi Hills district which will potentially be accessed by 40,000 people living in 20 villages. The minister also informed that NEIAH has started Swarnabindu Prashan Sanskar (Ayurvedic Immunno Modulation in Children) at its Ayurveda Hospital. With this programme, the government is helping patients with Ayurvedic solutions to treat Iron Deficiency Anemia (IDA) among tribal females between 18 and 45 years in Mawpat and Mylliem Block of East Khasi Hills district of under the AYURSWASTHYA Yojana.
NEIAH has been particularly helping patients with interventions like Panchakarma, Ksharasutra, Uttarabasti and Yoga to improve their quality of lives. As more and more students are trained in these techniques, including via specialised Panchakarma Technician programme, we expect the Ayush system of medicine to become more popular, widely available with deep healthcare benefits.
