Bangladeshi smugglers attack BSF troops in Naranganj; jawan seriously injured
A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan sustained serious head injuries after a group of Bangladeshi smugglers attacked BSF troops by pelting stones along the India-Bangladesh international border in Dhubri on Monday midnight. The injured jawan was immediately shifted to a BSF hospital in Cooch Behar for medical treatment.
The incident took place in an area under Narayangaanj BOP of cooch behar Sector of the international border.
The attack occurred when BSF personnel spotted suspicious movement of a large group of miscreants on the Bangladesh side of the border fencing. These individuals had illegally crossed the border and were attempting to smuggle contraband items with the help of their Indian associates.
“The BSF jawans challenged the miscreants and ordered them to retreat, but they ignored repeated verbal warnings. Instead, they turned aggressive, verbally abusing the troops and resorting to stone pelting. In the attack, one BSF jawan suffered a serious head injury,” said a BSF spokesperson.
Despite the provocation, the BSF exercised utmost restraint, using only non-lethal measures to disperse the smugglers and prevent further escalation. In a subsequent search operation, BSF troops seized 50 bottles of prohibited contraband.
Following the incident, BSF Inspector General (IG) Sanjay Gaur visited Sector HQ Dhubri and various Border Out Posts (BOPs) on Tuesday to assess the security situation and operational preparedness.
During his visit, IG Gaur reviewed the increasing activities of trans-border criminals and emphasized the BSF’s commitment to securing the Indo-Bangladesh border. He held discussions with unit commandants about strategies to curb cross-border smuggling and tackled challenges posed by the riverine terrain in the Brahmaputra char lands.
Interacting with BSF officers and troops, IG Gaur appreciated their vigilance, dedication, and resilience in safeguarding the border under adverse climatic conditions. He reiterated the BSF’s determination to keep the Indo-Bangladesh border crime-free while ensuring national security.
“The BSF remains on high alert to counter the rising threat of cross-border smuggling and anti-national activities, reinforcing its commitment to border security and territorial integrity,” the spokesperson added.
