Be prepared to fight for the Jaidbynriew and the hynñiewtrep land: KSU

In what could be considered as a rallying call to the members of the students’ body and the members of the community, the Khasi Students Union (KSU) leader today called on the members to be prepared.

Donald V Thabah General Secretary of the Khasi Students Union has cautioned the members of the Union to be prepare to fight for the sake of the community and the region. He made this statement while addressing the members of the newly formed unit of the KSU at Sohkymphor village, East Jaiñtia Hills District.

Thabah said that the Union which was initially started to fight for the rights and the welfare of the students in the state had to take on the mantle to protect the (jaidbynriew) the interest of the tribe and the territorial integrity of the region from the onslaught of the outside forces. He said that the territorial integrity of the state is in question as many parts of the interstate and even the international border is being attacked by force which are against the interest of the people and the hynñiewtrep land. He cited the example of the recent adventure by the Assam police at Langpih and even in places like Sabuda in Ribhoi district and the Block I area in the Jaiñtia hills district.

Thabah called on the members of the new unit to be prepared for any eventuality, for the future is very uncertain, he said. The youth may have to rise up to the challenge to protect the tribe and the land, Thabah concluded.

The officials of the new unit today who took oath of office are President Rimi Lyngdoh, Vice President Berley Suchiang, General Secretary Dolystar Lyngdoh, Assistant General Secretary Ioh Lapasam, Organising Secretary Imidao Lyngdoh, Publicity Secretary Karlin Lyngdoh, Finance Secretary Kampher Lyngdoh and 20 others.

Other who spoke in the meeting were Cherity D Suja General Secretary KSU JHDU, Reuben Najiar Assistant education Secretary KSU and A. Nongkynrih Assistant General Secretary KSU and the meeting was chaired by Shaniah Skhem Dkhar Assistant Finance Secretary KSU Jaintia Hills Unit.
