Beats from the Hills: Shillong’s Mark Ryan in top 10 of India’s EDM showdown

Mark Ryan Syiemlieh from Lummawbah, Upper Shillong has secured a spot in the Top 10 of ‘Resonate: The EDM Challenge’, a flagship competition under the ‘Create in India’ initiative and part of the upcoming WAVES 2025 Summit.
Organised by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting in collaboration with the Indian Music Industry (IMI), Resonate is designed to celebrate innovation, creativity, and collaboration in Electronic Dance Music (EDM), spotlighting India’s most promising emerging talents in music production and DJing.
Mark, a 22-year-old Political Science graduate from St. Anthony’s College, Shillong, now based in Mumbai, blends techno, trance, and house music. He called his selection “an honour” and said the platform reinforces his creative journey and belief in the music he’s creating.
The top 10 finalists, selected through a rigorous national process, will perform live at the WAVES global stage in Mumbai from May 1 to 4, 2025. They are: Srikanth Vemula from Mumbai, Mayank Harish Vidhani from Mumbai, Kshitij Nagesh Khodwe from Pune, Aaditya Dilbaghi from Mumbai, Aditya Upadhyaya from Kumarikata in Assam, Devansh Rastogi from New Delhi, Sumit Biltu Chakraborty from Mumbai, Mark Ryan Syiemlieh originally from Lummawbah in Meghalaya and currently based in Mumbai, Dibyajit Ray from Bongaigaon in Assam, and Nobajyoty Boruah from Lakhimpur in Assam, now based in Mumbai.
These finalists represent a diverse mix of genres and styles within EDM, from ambient compositions to high-energy club beats, reflecting India’s growing role in global music fusion and electronic artistry.
