Behdieñkhlam festival opens for all after two years of COVID restriction
After two consecutive years of restricted celebration of the Behdieñkhlam festival due to COVID pandemic, the Festival will be celebrated with all pomp and gaiety from July 11 to 14 this year.
Informing this to media persons on Wednesday Seinraij Jowai President OR Shallam said Behdienkhlam is literarily a festival to chase away plague and sickness and invoke Heavenly blessing for good harvest.
He said that the prime attraction of this year celebration is in commemoration of Meghalaya 50 years of attaining Statehood and 75 years of India’s Independence.
The Behdienkhlam Festival was supported by the Ministry of Tourism, NEC, State Government and JHADC.
“Since the month of January this year the preparation of Behdienkhlam begins and we see good sign after performing various rituals,” Shallam said while stating that this festival will be grand and different after two years of pandemic.
It’s a time to cheer and have fun with full spirit to have a good harvest and chase away the evil of the society especially to eradicate drugs, corruption and they hoped Behdienkhlam will triumph of good over evil, Shallam said
He also informed the visitor gallery sponsored by the Union Ministry of Tourism is almost complete and visitors can sit witness the Behdienkhlam.
He said the Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court will come to witness Behdienkhlam from July 13.
On the last day, Chief Minister and his Cabinet Ministers along with others guests will also come to witness the festival.
Dolloi of Jowai Elaka Puramon Kynjing said “the ritual have started since March last but this year we are free from pandemic we have strong faith in God our creator and we plead to him in this Behdienkhlam through our rituals that he bless us to celebrates Behdieñkhlam in spirit and represents the real value of the festival.”
“The recent flashflood this year has damaged the paddy field along the stretch of Myntdu river but we hope through the rituals we will be bless with a good harvest,” Dolloi said.
Through the celebration this year especially in four days that rituals due to god will not be compromise and will complete in spirit.
As responsible citizens, the Dolloi urges all the citizens to nurture and preserve the environment and chase away the evils in society.
