Beltola Bihu to present Bhupen Hazarika Award to Zubeen Garg
Assam’s heartthrob Zubeen Garg will receive a special honour in the upcoming Rongali Bihu festival, courtesy of the Beltola Bohagi Utsav Celebration Committee. The committee, in recognition of his profound and enduring impact on Assam’s social and cultural spheres, not only wished the celebrated artist a happy birthday but also announced that he would be conferred the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Award for the year 2025.
The announcement was made during a press conference at the Beltola Purbarun Sangha’s indoor hall. Sanjay Goswami, the general secretary of the committee, praised Zubeen Garg for his substantial contributions to the cultural fabric of Assam.
Zubeen’s music, influence, and involvement in various social causes have left an indelible mark on the state, and the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Award is a fitting tribute to his legacy.
Goswami wished Zubeen Garg a long and healthy life, expressing hope that the artist would continue to contribute to Assam’s cultural landscape with enthusiasm, creating new songs and engaging with the community in the years to come.
The Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Award will include a citation, a memento, a traditional Fulam Japi, a Sarai, a cheque of Rs 2 lakh, and other gifts.
This award will be presented during the Bohagi Utsav of 2025, continuing the committee’s tradition of honouring individuals for their significant contributions to Assam’s cultural sphere.
Since its inception in 2012, the Dr. Bhupen Hazarika Award has been presented to several prominent figures. Past recipients include Dipali Barthakur, Gyanada Kakati, Parveen Sultana, Sudarshana Sharma, Dr. Lakhyahira Das, George Baker, and Raveena Tandon, among others.
The press conference was attended by key members of the Beltola Bohagi Utsav Celebration Committee, including Vijay Boro (Executive President), Bichitra Boro (Vice President), Jayanta Boro (Cultural Secretary), and committee members Dhanjit Choudhury and Chandan Kumar Saikia.
