Bethany Hospital holds candlelight vigil for doctor murdered in Kolkata
In a heartfelt show of unity and solidarity, a candlelight vigil was held at Bethany Hospital, Shillong, on the evening of August 16 to honour the memory of a young doctor who tragically lost her life in a recent incident at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata. The event brought together healthcare professionals and community members to stand against the increasing violence faced by doctors in India.
The vigil, which began at 6:00 PM, featured heartfelt speeches and moments of silence. The Medical Superintendent, Dr. Rebekah L. I. Kharsaithiang, delivered a poignant address, expressing the collective grief and anger of the medical community.
“The doctor was on the path to becoming a specialist, dedicating her life to saving others,” Dr. Kharsaithiang said. “The lives she could have saved and the countless futures she could have touched are now only a painful reminder of what was stolen from her. This candlelight vigil signifies our unity and determination to ensure that no other doctor or woman in this country has to live in fear.”
The event served as a powerful reminder that the fight against violence and injustice must continue until true change is achieved.
