Bethany Society emerged Champions of the 3rd North East Blind Football Tournament
SHILLONG: Bethany Society Shillong emerged champions in the 3rd North East Blind Football Tournament 2019 organised by the Indian Blind Football Federation (IBFF) in association with Bethany Society by defeating Northeast Shower Blind Football club 1-0 in a penalty shootout at Shillong Public School on Saturday.
In the semifinals Bethany Society Shillong going through to the Final by defeating FABB Kolkata 4-0 while NESBFC Arunachal Pradesh defeated Moran Blind School of Assam 1-0 to meet Bethany society in the Final.
In the final, Bethany Society and North East Shower Blind Football Club (NESBFC) could not find a goal in normal time thanks to some great defending and goalkeeping and it was the Shillong side’s prolific scorer Gabriel Nongrum who was the only player to find the back of the net in the tiebreaker.
The IBFF plans to include several players who took part in the tournament in its Kochi academy.The dignitaries were Deputy Commissioner East Khasi Hills Matsiewdor War Nongbri, SP (CID) R.Muthu, MFA treasurer W. Kharkrang, David Absalom of International Blind Sports Association and Jani Viswanath of sponsor Healing Lives.
The Golden Boot winner was Gabriel Nongrum Bethany Society netting 15 goals.
Player of the Tournament was awarded to Klingson Marak NESBFC.
Most Promising Player was awarded to Manzur Hussain Manipur
Best Goalkeeper was awarded to Sujith PS.
The Champion team bagged Rs.25,000/- and the Runners’ Up Rs.15,000/- respectively.
