Bharalumukh murder fallout of victim’s affair with accused’s wife: Police
A government driver, Lal Hussain Ali (43), was arrested for allegedly killing a man, Taibuddin Ahmed (35), over an extramarital affair between the victim and the accused’s wife.
The incident occurred on October 3 at PNGB Road, Shantipur, with the victim’s body being recovered near Pragjyotish College, Bharalumukh.
The accused Lal Hussain Ali, the son of Lt. Rahimsa Ali and a resident of Roumari, Sualkuchi in Kamrup district, worked as a driver for the Joint Director of the National Vector Borne Diseases Control in Guwahati.
He was arrested in connection with Bharalumukh police station case number 180/24 under section 61(2)(a)/103(1)/238(a) BNS
The victim, Taibuddin Ahmed, was a resident of Na Howly under Mangaldoi police station in Darrang district.
On October 3, around 10:50 pm, the traffic branch of Bharalumukh Police Station received information about a road accident in front of Pragjyotish College. Upon arrival, traffic personnel found a severely injured person lying on the road, who was immediately rushed to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Witnesses reported that the vehicle involved was a Bolero with “Government of Assam” written on its bonnet. They also mentioned that the vehicle had dragged the victim for about 400 meters before he became detached from the car.
Despite receiving treatment at GMCH, the victim succumbed to his injuries on October 4 at 12:35 am.
Following the incident, police analyzed CCTV footage from the area and gathered witness statements, which led them to identify the suspect vehicle as a Bolero with the registration number AS 01 DP 9853. The vehicle was registered under the “National Vector Borne Diseases Control Program, Joint Director of Christian Basti, Kamrup – 781005.”
Subsequently, an inquiry was conducted at the National Vector Borne Diseases Control Program office in Christian Basti, where the suspect vehicle was located at the Assam Water Centre in Basistha. The vehicle was confirmed to be used by the joint director of the National Vector Borne Diseases Control, Guwahati, who had attended an official meeting.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the joint director’s official driver, Lal Hussain Ali, had dropped him off at his residence around 6:30 pm on October 3 and was supposed to return the next morning at around 8 am. However, the vehicle remained in Ali’s possession during the interim period. He was subsequently apprehended at the office.
During interrogation, Lal Hussain Ali confessed to the crime, revealing his intention to kill Taibuddin Ahmed due to an illicit relationship between Ahmed and his wife, Anjuma Begum.
Investigations uncovered that Taibuddin Ahmed, who had been married three times, was currently living with Anjuma Begum in a rented house in Shantipur. Ali had been married twice, with Anjuma Begum as his second wife. Their marriage deteriorated as Anjuma began an affair with Ahmed, leading to her leaving Ali and cohabiting with Ahmed.
Taibuddin Ahmed, a vendor selling fruits and vegetables at No. 9 Railway Gate in Shantipur, had previously married Rejina Begam and Asiya Khatun. The affair with Anjuma had been ongoing for the past four years, and for the last two years, she had been living separately in Shantipur. Ali had attempted to salvage his marriage but was unsuccessful due to the ongoing affair, which resulted in escalating enmity between him and Ahmed.
On the day of the incident, Ali dropped off his boss and took the government vehicle under the pretext of rain, instead of leaving it with his employer. He meticulously planned to kill Ahmed, familiar with the victim’s daily routine after closing his shop.
Ali arrived in the area near Shantipur Main Road in the Bolero vehicle around 9:18 pm, waiting for the right moment. At approximately 10:42 pm, as the victim was returning home, Ali struck him from behind at high speed, dragging him about 400 meters to the gate of Pragjyotish College. When locals raised an alarm and pursued the vehicle, Ali fled towards Fatasil Chariali.
