Bike rally marks International Women’s Day in Jowai

The District Hub for Empowerment of Women, Social Welfare Department, West Jaintia Hills District, in collaboration with Jowai Police organised a bike rally to mark International Women’s Day, held on March 8.
The event began at the District Library Compound, Mynthong, Jowai, and ended at Madan Wahriong, Mihmyntdu. Seventy bikers, both men and women, participated, riding through Jowai town to the rhythm of the Khasi folk song “Kynthei Tur Shaphrang.”
Crescency W Lyngdoh, Additional Superintendent of Police, Jowai, flagged off the rally, highlighting the importance of celebrating women’s resilience and achievements while addressing their struggles. She emphasised that women’s rights are human rights and encouraged everyone to support women in excelling in all fields.
Other speakers, including S Lakaing, BBBP Ambassador; S Manner, OC Jowai Police Station; and R Ryngkhlem, President of Iasnohktilang V.O. Mihmyntdu, stressed the need for empowerment and breaking barriers.

Jowai Women Police Station; L Ksoo, Centre Manager and Protection Officer at the One Stop Centre; F Rynnga, District Mission Coordinator; Y Najiar, District Social Welfare Officer; and Yoohi Kyndait, Gender Specialist, joined the rally, strongly advocating for women’s empowerment and equality.
