BJP accuses NPP, Cong of ruining GHADC
Claiming that the BJP is the only hope to restore back the lost glory of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council, BJP state vice president Bernard N Marak has accused the ruling NPP and opposition Congress of ruining the Council.
“BJP will restore the glory of GHADC in Garo Hills. All political parties took advantage of the autonomy of GHADC and exploited its resources by compromising the demands of the state government in the past,” Marak said in a statement issued on Wednesday.
He said GHADC gave away 80% of its revenue to the state and most of the departments were taken over by the state government without constitutional sanction which incurred great loss to the people and Council as a whole.
Stating that BJP is the only hope to revive GHADC to its old glory against all odds and crisis, Marak said the Congress and NPP can never reform GHADC.
“These two parties have ruined GHADC to such a deplorable position where it needs to beg from the State. The leaders are not taking responsibility for the sorry state of GHADC. Even now, the State leaders are working with the Engineers of the Civil works in Shillong to take out the money sanctioned to GHADC,” he said.
“They need the money for election expenses not for development and solve the ongoing crisis in GHADC where employees ceased work. They exploited the people of Garo Hills with false promises and leave the GHADC weaker every time they form the Executive Committee,” he added.
Asserting the need for the people of Garo Hills to save Council from being abolished and have faith in BJP, Marak said GHADC’s due salary is for 34 months and shamelessly, leaders claim they cleared the dues while they continue to exploit GHADC.
“The corrupt leaders are buying properties over properties in Shillong and different places with the Council money while the employees are on strike due to non payment of salaries which doesn’t seem to bother the leaders. BJP is the only party which can bring back the old glory of GHADC as most of the BJP’s aspiring candidates are young and aims to end corruption in GHADC,” he stated.
