BJP all set to contest ADC polls next year, Hek says winnability is a factor for allotment of ticket
BJP leader and cabinet minister AL Hek on Thursday informed that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to contest the upcoming elections to the KHADC and JHADC.
Speaking to reporters, Hek said that the party has discussed the issue during a meeting held among the senior members including the state president, vice presidents, general secretary and others.
“We are of the opinion that the party should prepare to contest the upcoming elections to the Khasi HIlls Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC),” he said.
According to him, so far the party has received application for ticket from only two aspirants in Ri Bhoi district.
The party has one MDC in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
Hek however said that the party would not want to contest the MDC elections just for the sake of contesting the election.
“Therefore, the winnability of the candidates should be taken into consideration (while allotting a party ticket),” he stated.
He added that the party will start its preparation for contesting the MDC elections.
