BJP alleges corruption in PMAY implementation in Garo Hills
BJP leader and MDC Bernard N Marak has alleged corruption in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) in Garo Hills region.
The PMAY was launched by the Government of India to provide affordable housing to the urban poor.
In a statement issued, Marak said people have been badly affected during storm due to non implementation of PMAY schemes.
“Politicians who diverted the fund sanctioned for pucca houses under PMAY (Low cost houses) are paying Rs 3000 to Rs 5000 to victims of storm in place of 1.3 lacs to cover up the scam of pucca houses sanctioned by the BJP led NDA Government through PMAY schemes,” he said.
“It is a fact that every year, people in Garo Hills are suffering during cyclonic storms because they still live in kutcha houses as PMAY schemes, which is commonly known as “low cost houses” were not sanctioned to the poor,” he said.
Marak informed that women folks in Tura applied for the low cost houses 4 years ago through Tura Municipal Board but till now no PMAY houses are visible in entire town. This resulted in cyclonic storm damaging the kutcha houses and people being affected badly.
“To cover up the mess, the leaders are paying meagre amount to the victims to cover up the scam of not having pucca houses through PMAY in Tura town,” he said.
“Interesting part is, after assuring the PMAY schemes to the people of Tura, Tura Municipal Board now replied in RTI that they are not dealing with PMAY schemes. The public was made to pay the holding taxes and clear dues in false assurance of PMAY,” he further stated.
Stating that he would seek more details of the scheme, Marak assured that the BJP teams will monitor every scheme sanctioned by the BJP led NDA Government and ensure that every scheme reaches the right people cutting through party lines.
