BJP assures to request Centre to implement ILP in Meghalaya
JOWAI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state has assured to request the Centre to consider implementing the inner line permit (ILP) in Meghalaya.
Speaking to syllad.com, BJP state president Shibun Lyngdoh said the party fully support the resolution unanimously passed by the state Assembly to demand ILP in the state.
He said the BJP is also backing the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government in the state.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will soon lead a delegation of the MDA to take up the resolution with the Central government.
Asked, Lyngdoh said, “From the state party, we will also tell the Centre that it should give ILP to the state.”
On the stand of the state party with regards to the Citizenship Amendment Act, 2019, which has created strong resentment in Meghalaya and other states in the North east region, he said the issue is part of the BJP’s election manifesto.
The BJP leader however said that he does not sees that CAA will be a threat to the state of Meghalaya.
“The Union home minister Amit Shah has assured that Meghalaya which is having Sixth Schedule will be exempted from the purview of the Act,” he said.
At the same time, Lyngdoh also accused the opposition Congress for allegedly misleading the people on the issue of CAA.
“The anti-CAA protests is due to misinformation spread by the Congress,” he said.
The CAA seeks to provide citizenship to non-Muslim refugees from Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan.
