BJP demands Conrad K Sangma to step down as CM
The state BJP on Monday said that the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma should either bring a CBI probe into the collapse of the dome of the new Assembly building or resign from the chief minister’s post.
Supporting the BJP state president Ernest Mawrie’s demand for a CBI inquiry, BJP MDC from Tura Bernard Marak dared Conrad Sangma to bring in CBI or to resign from his Chief Minister’s post.
“While appointing Conrad Sangma as the Chief Minister, BJP anticipated good governance and all round development of the State with zero corruption but Chief Minister rebuked BJP through action and failed miserably to live up to the aspirations of the people,” he said.
“Everyone is disappointed as the poor remain poor and weak perished, including the youths who are stranded without job opportunities. They made their parties grow with public money which can’t be tolerated. Chief Minister Conrad Sangma should agree for CBI inquiry or step down bearing moral responsibility,” he alleged.
Marak said that people are disappointed and have lost faith in Conrad’s leadership adding “therefore BJP wants him to step down owning moral responsibility for all the corruption lapses which erupted around the state.”
The MDC, who was kept as an opposition in GHADC wants central leaders to come forward to introspect and to complete a post mortem of the developments and implementation of central schemes in the state before it’s too late.
He further alleged that the state has witnessed the worst political and social scenario under Conrad K Sangma leadership.
“BJP needs to be cautious about how the party and its local leaders were controlled by the NPP as it views the BJP as a threat rather than an ally which is visible. Everyone knows that the central BJP was highly influential in bringing the NPP to power by brushing aside the Congress,” he said.
Marak stated that it was time Conrad Sangma, the leader of MDA cleared the charges raised by senior BJP leaders with regard to coal and power scam before our central leaders take a call to suspend ties with NPP.
“We are waiting for a green signal from central leaders to suspend ties with NPP. A CBI enquiry is required to initiate proper probe of the two scams. The issue of coal and power has not even subsided now the government is levelled with shoddy construction scam because everyone knows in the state that NPP ambition to build its party in Northeast with the resources of the State is getting dried in the process. Meghalaya is becoming poorer day by day because of the NPP’s hidden agenda. Thus, the Chief Minister needs to come out clean and step down bearing moral responsibility.”
He said that the BJP as a party should lead the way and guide the MDA partners in removing Conrad Sangma as he has been highly unsuccessful in combating corruption which has become the order of the day nor has he cleared the minds of the people on various important issues.
“Since he couldn’t confront the allegations leveled against him by senior BJP leaders, he silenced everyone as most of the time he escaped by holding other ministers responsible.
BJP will run a statewide campaign demanding his replacement. The only way for MDA to come back to power is to replace the incumbent CM with a clean leadership which will subsequently help root out the prevailing bad governance. If ministers can be changed after two and half years why not the Chief Minister be replaced especially in the wake of so many irregularities in governance.” questioned Marak.
Marak further said CM has failed to address several issues of the state and we can witness chaos in the government as most of the time we can see government doing nothing to address public issues be it the implementation of Amrut scheme, irregularities in food and civil supplies department, illegal coal mining, power scam, teachers salary, garbage issues, ISBT and assembly faulty construction, JJM, PMAY, Kishan card, PMGKAY, awarding of contract works to mostly outside companies. The government under the leadership of Conrad Sangma has failed on all fronts and it’s high time the CM should be replaced, he reiterated.
