BJP felicitate Padmashree awardee Silbi Passah, Hek

The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) felicitated Padmashree awardee Silbi Passah and cabinet minister Alexander L Hek for being conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.

The duo was felicitated by the BJP state president Rikman G Momin at a function held at the state party here on Saturday.

Speaking at the programme, Passah expressed happiness that the government of India has recognized her work especially when it comes to popularizing traditional song, dance and poetries from Meghalaya.

Passah said that in her career as a teacher, who teaches Hindi subjects, she had ample opportunities to represent the state in showcasing the rich traditions and culture throughout the country and the world.

Expressing her gratitude to the BJP, Passah said “We must respect our own culture and language and the world will respect you”.

In his speech, Hek said “It is an honor to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for being the best cabinet minister in Meghalaya”.

He also lauded Passah for receiving the Padmashree Award and thanked her for showcasing the rich culture of Meghalaya throughout the country.
