BJP leader accuses CM of issuing order to gun him down
BJP state vice president and Tura MDC Bernard N Marak on Sunday accused the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma of issuing order to gun him down.
The serious allegation was made through a video statement where Marak claimed that he was not evading arrest but had moved to Guwahati for his safety.
This came a day after the West Garo Hills police busted a sex racket in the private farm ‘Rimpu Bagan’ of Marak leading to arrest of 73 persons and rescuing of 5 children including a girl.
In the video statement, Marak however referred to all the allegations as wrong and well-planned conspiracy to malign his image and create a fear psychosis among the public especially the supporters of the BJP, which is growing from strength to strength in the Garo Hills region.
“Due to this, the coalition partners mainly the NPP and its chief who is the Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma has conspired against the BJP by targeting me becuase I have won from his seat in the heart of Garo Hills where tribals both Christians and non-Christians had voted for the BJP.
BJP is accepted as the next political party for the state of Meghalaya and this has created insecurity among political leaders and specially to Conrad Sangma who has directed the police to file a case against me and to gun me down.
I am told I was a target and the special order has come from the top to gun me down,” he alleged.
“I have come to know from a reliable sources that the SP of Tura Vivekanand Rathore and the Inspector General of Police (Law and Order) Mukesh Singh they are out to gun me down because I have become a threat to the present CM in his own constituency after winning the GHADC election which covers four MLAs areas,” Marak further alleged.
Marak was a former chairman of the disbanded Achik National Volunteer Council – Breakaway (ANVC.B).
The BJP MDC informed that when he was in Shillong to attend the party’s state executive committee meeting held on Friday, he was asked to report to Shillong police thana.
“As I was coming out to Shillong thana I saw two Bolero and one police Gypsy coming towards where I was and I had to move out as it was Mukesh Singh, who is the IGP (Law and Order) in Shillong and he is looking after Garo Hills also – and I was very apprehensive because I had the information that they are trying to implicate me and if possible to gun me down and I was surprise to see them immediately outside where I was taking rest then I had to move out of Shillong and I have to come to Guwahati.”
Stating that he is not absconding as alleged, Marak said, “I am not evading arrest but I am just trying to be safe and to bring out the truth to the public because they are highlighting the negative side of the story.”
He further claimed that since the BJP is growing from strength to strength and is hopeful to winning more seats in Garo Hills and is becoming a threat to them, the entire drama of raiding the farm house was “staged”.
“Therefore, all these allegations are conspiracies, accusing me of running a brothel, a prostitution is totally wrong and it is all being made up by the state police. Even the things that have been found in the farm most of it has been staged,” he said.
He said the strength behind the growth of BJP in christian dominated areas is through the hardwork we are giving through the party and raising corruption issues and fighting against the communal tactics of the various agents help us to grow in the hill area.
“I have become a personal threat to him (CM) and this case has been made against me. I do not run a brothel, I do not run prostitution racket and I am not involved in all this seizure of drinks as shown in the media. They have taken only one media which is sponsored by hub news and they are spreading it to the national level and that is very wrong,” he said.
Marak said that he was actually helping the under privileged students to study.
“Even in that farm I am keeping not less than 9-10 of the students and helping them to study. Even those students who have been taken into custody by the police are being sponsored by me. There has been no such kind of harrassment given to them but the police have come to my farm again and again and created that fear psychosis and this time they have gone to an extreme.”
He said the police are trying to dig out old cases which was not even related to him. He said they are also taking out JCB and are trying to destroy the houses and shops which are a livelihood to many people around that area.
