BJP-led alliance files nominations statewide for panchayat polls; development to drive campaign, says Dilip Saikia

With the stage set for Panchayat elections in Assam on May 2 and 7, the BJP-led alliance made a strong electoral push on Friday as its candidates filed nominations across the state. In a high-energy show of political coordination, the alliance officially declared its presence in all 397 Zila Parishad constituencies, with the BJP contesting 323 seats and its ally, the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP), fielding candidates in 74 seats.
At the Assam BJP Headquarters, party spokesperson Juri Sharma Bordoloi highlighted the overwhelming enthusiasm during the nomination process. She credited the presence of MLAs, MPs, ministers, and senior party functionaries with boosting the confidence and morale of the grassroots candidates.
Bordoloi also underscored the BJP’s decision to prioritize women candidates in 176 Zila Parishad seats, calling it “a meaningful initiative” aligned with the party’s long-term goal of inclusive governance.
Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, who participated in the nomination ceremony in Darrang district, marked the formal launch of the party’s poll campaign. Speaking to workers and supporters, he reaffirmed that the BJP’s core campaign theme will revolve around rural development and accelerating welfare at the grassroots.
“We are entering this election with the message of progress. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, development has reached every district, every panchayat,” Saikia said.
He referenced the BJP’s strong performance in recent elections, including the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council polls, noting that public support continues to cut across caste, community, and region.
Saikia expressed confidence in the alliance’s victory, attributing it to a combination of development work, strong leadership, and an organized cadre base. He urged the people of Assam to continue blessing the BJP-led alliance with their support in the upcoming local body polls.
Friday’s nomination filing was marked by active coordination at the ground level, with ministers, legislators, and district leaders rallying around candidates for both Zila Parishad and Anchalik Panchayat seats. Across the state, the alliance projected unity and discipline, signalling readiness for an intensive door-to-door campaign.
As the nomination window closes and scrutiny begins, the BJP-led alliance has positioned itself as a front-runner, aiming to dominate the rural political map of Assam, with development, women’s participation, and grassroots mobilization at the heart of its strategy.
