BJP MDC demands GHADC to revoke MoU signed with a “fake” CA

BJP MDC from Tura Bernard N Marak on Wednesday demanded the NPP-led executive committee (EC) in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) to revoke the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with Sumit Kumar Jain Bohra while alleging him of being a fake chartered accountant (CA) without a license for trading by non tribal (TNT).
In a letter shot to the secretary of the GHADC EC, Marak said, “…I humbly request you to kindly revoke the MoU with Sumit Kumar Jain Bohra for not having a TNT and faking as a Chartered Accountant. I pray this of you to safeguard the interest of the Tribal Institution (GHADC) from exploitation by a non-tribal who does not own a TNT and a CA degree.”
“Kindly do the needful by this week failing which I would be compelled to take a legal step against everyone involved in signing of the MoU with the fake CA,” he warned.
Marak alleged that the decision of the EC for engagement of Sumit Kumar Jain Bohra as the consultant on matters related to GST and assuring him an amount exceeding Rs 8 crore as a consultant fee and paying him Rs 1.2 crores as an advance payment is an unjustifiable act and totally unlawful as he does not have TNT and does not own a Chartered Accountant’s degree to execute such task on behalf of GHADC.
“I was informed that the Executive Committee decision to engage Sumit Kumar Jain Bohra as consultant was inconclusive as recorded in the proceeding of the meeting but why was MoU signed with him in haste and advance payment of Rs 1.2 crore paid to him on what assurance in the MoU? Can you kindly reply to me officially within this week? He was specifically mentioned as CA in the proceeding of the meeting for which I would like to ask if his degree and credentials were verified before taking this matter for discussion and signing the MoU? How was the MoU signed when the Executive Committee did not finalise the decision? Moreover, he does not own a TNT for the same purpose. If yes, who signed the recommendation in my place as he resides in my constituency?” he questioned.
Marak also pointed out that the reply of the Executive Member I/c Taxation Department stated to my question in the last session that “Sir, MDCs are not assigned to check the TNT or other documents issued to the individuals of their constituencies but only for recommendation of the documents”.
He further questioned: “Then sir, who recommended Sumit Kumar Jain Bohra without TNT? Was it verified before engaging him as consultant or his credentials checked?”
“As per my knowledge, he never applied for a recommendation from me for TNT for his consultancy agency / business. So how was he considered as a consultant without TNT?” he also asked.
