BJP Meghalaya resolves to support ILP demand
SHILLONG: The BJP in Meghalaya has resolved to demand total exemption of the state from the purview of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 and to support the long pending demand for the introduction of the Inner Line Permit (ILP).
The resolution was adopted at an emergent meeting of the state party held in the city here on Saturday.
The meeting chaired by vice president and former minister JA Lyngdoh in presence of South Shillong legislator Sanbor Shullai and other party leaders has also expressed concern over the present volatile situation in the state arising out of the passage of the CAB, which now has become an Act.
Lyngdoh informed that the meeting has observed that the decision of the central government to exempt only Sixth Schedule areas will not serve the demand of local indigenous community.
“Thus, the state office bearers has passed a resolution that the implementation of the CAA be exempted throughout the state as a whole and (also decided) to support the long pending demand for implementation of the ILP in the state of Meghalaya,” he said.
In the meeting, the party members also feels that the present structure of the traditional intuition of the state should not be touched at all, he added.
