BJP opposes extravagant expenditure by AG
The state BJP has expressed its unhappiness against the alleged extravagant expenditure spend by the Advocate General, Amit Kumar.
In a statement issued on Sunday, BJP state vice president, Bernard N Marak said it has been shown in the RTI sought from the office of Advocate General that 2,78,92,000 has been spent in conducting of drafting, advice /opinion, vettings and meetings in High Court of Meghalaya, NGT and Supreme Court.
RTI reply from the office of the AG also revealed that huge amount of public money has been spent by Advocate General Amit Kumar in running a case in Meghalaya High Court adding and if the case is taken to Supreme Court, it goes much higher, he said.
Stating that public money should be made accountable by all concerned authorities and every penny spent should be worth some benefit to the public in general, Marak however said, “Looks like the state government is being burdened by the AG with the cost of running a case in Court.”
He said the state BJP is not happy with the system in which public money is being spent extravagantly without proper accountability.
Marak said the RTI revealed that government have spent 3,46,000 in a case against SR Marak which the High Court passed judgement against the government.
The travel expenses is shown amounting to Rs 5,37,056 and POL Rs 4,01,020.
The BJP leader also asked why is state government spending so much on AG when its own employees are deprived of their dues?
He also demanded that the state government should refrain from using public money extravagantly without proper utility as State has more serious matters to look into. Public money should bring benefit to the public in general instead of sole benefactors, he stated
