BJP ready to support NPP for forming new EC in GHADC
The state BJP on Thursday has decided to put ‘zero tolerance on corruption’ as a precondition to support the ruling National People’s Party (NPP) in forming the new executive committee in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
“We are ready to work together with the NPP and form the new EC but on condition that we should fight against corruption in the district council,” BJP state president Ernest Mawrie said.
Mawrie also said that the BJP will not hesitate to sit in the opposition bench just like in the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council if they are not comfortable working with any political party.
BJP has won two seats. Party state vice president Bernard N Marak defeated NPP candidate from South Tura, which is also the home constituency of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.
On the other hand, BJP leader and health minister AL Hek said that just like in the state level, the party is also interested in working with NPP at the GHADC.
“The BJP incharge Meghalaya Dr Chuba Ao and the state president Ernest Mawrie have already left for Garo Hills. I will also leave for Garo Hills tomorrow to meet our candidates. We will also discuss the issue on formation of the new EC,” he said.
Asked, Hek said it is not possible for the party to work with the opposition Congress.
