BJP releases its first list of 17 candidates for ADC polls in Meghalaya
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday announced its first list of 17 candidates for the upcoming elections to the autonomous district councils (ADCs), slated to be held on February 21.
Of this, 14 candidates are from constituencies under the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) and 3 from the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council (JHADC).
Addressing media persons, BJP state general secretary Wankitbok Pohshna said, “This is the first time that the party is going all out to contest maximum seats in the ADCs. I am sure our participation will help as the party will be able to contribute in strengthening the foundation of the district councils. So that we are looking forward if people choose our candidates.”
He informed that the second list of candidates will be released before January 27.
Asked, Pohshna said there are potential seats from different constituencies in the Khasi and Jaintia region where the party has a good chance of winning.
“We are working on and we are having a positive note on it.”
On the alleged fund misuse by candidates in the past elections, the general secretary said, “I cannot comment on what has gone wrong in the previous elections but yes we will ensure that the candidates that we have announced today they will go to the field and carry forward the party’s message.”
In regards to the party’s manifesto, Pohshna said, “We will have a centralized manifesto, which we are going to bring out in the coming days and we hope our candidates will carry forward the vision of the Prime Minister of a developed nation and how to go about it and how from the ADCs we can be part of that vision. The manifesto will revolve around the party’s aim to strengthen the basics of the ADCs.”
The 14 candidates for KHADC include Himanta Timung-Jirang, Manin Raja-Nongpoh, Hopingstone Marsharing-Mawhati, Brighstarfield Khongwir-Umsning, Councellor Mukhim-Mawkynrew, Elvisstar Kharbudon-Langkyrdem Laitkroh, Ebren Khongthah-Nongshken, Fairlock D Ryngksai-Nongthymmai, Kynsaibor LyngdohMalki Laitumkhrah, Daniella Nonglait- Mawlai, Lewis Janong Sooting-Langrin, Dimandar Lyngdoh-Nongstoin, Dominic Wahlang- Rambrai Jyrngam and Roland Mawsor- Mawshynrut
For JHADC, the candidates are Heimonmitre Phawa- Jowai South, Manbha Lyngdoh- Muthlong Sohkympor, and Shanbor Rymbai- Musniang Rangad.
