BJP targeting linguistic, religious minorities after elections: BGP
Bharatiya Gana Parishad (BGP) on Sunday said the ruling BJP has adopted an aggressive stance towards linguistic and religious minorities only because the regional party has participated in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections in the state.
The BGP, which has been advocating for the rights of Bengali Hindus in Assam, had contested from five Lok Sabha seats in the state.
In a statement here, BGP general secretary (administration) Biren Basak and publicity secretary Pranay Das said the BJP-led government in Assam is planning for a massive eviction dive against linguistic and religious minorities.
“The BJP is trying to influence Bengali Hindus in the name of implementation of Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). CAA. Bengali Hindus are still receiving D voter notices from Foreigners Tribunals (FTs) in various parts of the state,” they alleged.
“More than 4,000 people in Nagaon, several hundred people at Ratabari in Barak Valley are pressurized to apply for citizenship under CAA. Even as the government stopped trial of D voter cases in the Foreigners Tribunals, the trial of D voter cases continued in the FTs. Nobody has been spared from the cases, they also alleged.
“All these people had applied for NRC. Afer verification, they have been proved as Indian citizens, but are not spared from D voter cases,” the BGP leaders alleged.
The leaders further alleged that several hundred Bengali Hindus who have been living in various places of Karbi Anglong prior to Independence are now facing eviction threats from the government as the government has decided to clear PGRs and VGRs of the hill district. They are also not sparing the SC people from the proposed eviction drive, they said.
“The Bengali Hindus will give a fitting reply if such injustice is continued against the community. In the last election, the BGP contested from 5 constituencies. Now the ruling compensation is trying to split the party with the help of RSS agents,” the BGP leaders said.
“In the last week, Youth wing president Mrinal Das was suspended for six years for his involvement in the anti-party activities. Some elderly leaders like Subimal Biswas, Shymalendu Bhattacharyya and Antosh Choudhury were released from the party. We are also preparing to contest the upcoming panchayat polls, BTC polls and state assembly elections against the ruling party,” they added.
